NEW HAVEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT URGES RESIDENTS TO VACCINATE AGAINST THE SEASONAL FLU
(10/6/2009) NEW HAVEN- The New Haven Health Department is urging residents to get their flu shots soon in what’s expected to be another risky season of the influenza virus. Department officials particularly caution the elderly and all other high risk individuals to visit their primary care physicians or local clinics for a vaccine or to attend on of the City sponsored events where vaccinations will be available at $15 per person. Residents who have Medicare Part B can show their membership cards to receive the vaccinations at no cost to them.
The Health Department is also making a special effort this year to reach out to homeless individuals in the City to ensure that they are properly immunized against the seasonal flu. With this goal in mind, the health department is supplying 200 doses of seasonal vaccine that Yale medical students will administer every Saturday in October from 9-10:30 a.m. at St. James and St. Paul's food pantry located at Olive and Chapel Streets. On November 1st, the Department will be supplying 200 doses through a health fair at Trinity on the Green for homeless and other needy populations.
